Public Hearings Scheduled for Proposed Solid Waste Fee Increase
News Release from County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management, September 8, 2026
The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management will host public hearings Sept. 16 and Sept. 18 on a proposed increase in solid waste disposal fees.
The proposed fee increase is the first since 2024 and reflects changes in the consumer price index.
Proposed Fee Changes
West Hawaiʻi Sanitary Landfill
- Current: $128 per ton.
- New: $138 per ton.
East Hawaiʻi Regional Sort Station
- Current: $128 per ton plus $26 per ton Reload Disposal fee for Commercial haulers.
- New: $138 per ton plus $28 per ton Reload Disposal fee for Commercial haulers.
East and West Hawaiʻi Organics Facility
- Current: $32 per ton.
- New: $34.50 per ton.
